  1. I first saw a Joan Mitchell show at the Musée Jeu de Paume, Paris , 1993 or 4. I was blown away with the energy of her large and loosely painted canvases . Partly because this little museum was formerly the impressionists museum before the The Musée d'Orsay was refurbished from the old train station, La Gare Saint-Lazare, remember the Monet painting? The journey became a full circle because Joan Mitchell's paintings in this show were abstracts of some of the same spots Monet painted. Her paintings had a lot of emotional content for me because even though I had loved the impressionists as a child, I was and am contemporary in my outlook both as a young and as a mature artist. On that day I fell instantly almost in love with her vision and to her linking the Impressionists as part of our artistic heritage.
